EAST KILBRIDE WRESTLING STAR COLIN MCKAY SENTENCED FOR SEX CRIMES AGAINST TEENS

In a shocking case that has sent ripples through the Scottish wrestling community, Colin McKay, a prominent figure in the sport and known as the Highlander, was sentenced to more than three years in prison for a series of heinous sex offenses committed against teenage boys. The crimes, which involved grooming and abuse, have cast a dark shadow over his previously celebrated career.

McKay, aged 35 and residing in East Kilbride, was found guilty of engaging in a pattern of manipulative behavior aimed at vulnerable teenagers aged between 13 and 16 years old. The court heard that the former British heavyweight champion, who had been coaching at a wrestling academy, used his position to send inappropriate and sick messages to the young boys, gradually gaining their trust before subjecting them to abuse.

The sentencing took place at Hamilton Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Thomas Millar emphasized that McKay’s actions warranted a custodial sentence. He sentenced McKay to three years and ten weeks behind bars, underscoring the severity of the crimes and the need to protect other children from potential harm. Sheriff Millar also issued a lifelong ban preventing McKay from working with children in any capacity.

During the court proceedings, McKay, who appeared bald-headed, admitted to a series of sex charges last month. His lawyer, Paul Brown, expressed remorse on his behalf, stating, “He feels a great deal of remorse and sympathy.” Despite this, the court made it clear that the nature of his offenses left no room for leniency.

McKay’s fall from grace was particularly notable given his status as one of Scotland’s top wrestling coaches until his sudden retirement earlier this year. His reputation was further enhanced by his role in training several WWE wrestling stars, making his crimes all the more shocking to the public and the wrestling community alike. The case has raised serious concerns about safeguarding and the vulnerability of young athletes in sports environments, prompting calls for stricter oversight and protective measures.
