PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR ONLINE GROOMING AND DECEPTION
A man who falsely claimed to be a teenager in order to go on holiday with the family of his 15-year-old victim has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Clinton Stothard, aged 31, engaged in online grooming of the girl, convincing her that he was her 19-year-old boyfriend.
He also targeted other young girls online, urging them to send sexually explicit images.
One of his victims, a 14-year-old girl from Bristol, communicated with him over 3,000 times through calls and texts over a two-week period.
During his sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court, the judge described him as “every parent’s worst nightmare” and likened him to “a shark swimming in the waters of the internet...
preying on children.” Residing in Barnsley, Stothard admitted to 18 charges involving 39 offences against four children.
He received a six-year prison term, along with an additional 12 months on extended license, a sexual harm prevention order, and restrictions on his internet activity.
Authorities identified him after Barnardos raised concerns about his contact with a vulnerable girl.
An investigation also resulted in the arrest and four-year imprisonment of Owen Hall for child sex offences.
Detective Constable Kim O’Donnell emphasized his manipulative grooming methods and the alarming scope of his deception, reaffirming the police’s dedication to safeguarding vulnerable children.
