LONDON MAN JAILED FOR STALKING AND MURDERING EX-GIRLFRIEND
Clifford Mills, aged 49 and from Brixton in south London, was found guilty of murdering his former girlfriend, Lorna Smith, aged 45.The homicide took place after Mills tracked her online via Facebook, using a false name, Charlie Manning, to establish contact.
When Miss Smith began a new relationship with another man, Mills lured her to his residence, where he assaulted her with a pick axe handle and subsequently stabbed her last February.
Mills argued that he was suffering from a mental health disorder at the time of the incident.
Court proceedings revealed that Mills had a background of manipulative conduct, with the judge describing the murder as a premeditated act fueled by jealousy and anger.
Additionally, Mills told medical personnel that a supposed individual called 'Stan' had committed the crime, a figure he claimed existed only in his mind, suggesting a dissociative identity disorder.
The judge sentenced Mills to serve at least 21 years in prison, highlighting that the murder was a tragic, intentional act that deprived a woman who had previously supported him of her life.
An impact statement from Miss Smith’s daughter, Louise Harvey, expressed her pain and sorrow, noting her belief that her pregnant mother would never meet her granddaughter.
Mills remains a notable figure in this case due to his manipulative stalking and the violent nature of the murder.
