BOURNEMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR NIECE'S MURDER
In a tragic case, 58-year-old Christopher Wall was convicted of the murder of his niece and partner, Hayley Wall. The court learned that Hayley, aged 25, was found outside Charminster Supermarket in Bournemouth on December 13 with significant head injuries and died nine days later.
Evidence presented at trial indicated she had been struck by a television and perhaps a door ripped from its hinges, in a relationship characterized by volatility and violence with Wall.
The jury reached a verdict of guilty after a two-week trial, and Wall was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 14 years.
Judge Keith Cutler commented, "You believed your feelings were love, but this incident occurred because your relationship was unstable, sometimes involving violence and aggression." Several neighbors heard Wall shouting, "is this how you want to be treated?" and loud thuds followed.
When found, Hayley was severely injured; she told emergency responders that her partner "smashed a TV over the top of my head." Police found evidence of a physical altercation including a damaged television and bloodstains in the flat.
Wall had also sustained stab wounds to his back and claimed he was attacked by Hayley with scissors, asserting he acted in self-defense.
His lawyer expressed remorse for the incident, while Hayley's relatives said they would have intervened if they had known about the troubled relationship.
