CLYDEBANK SEX OFFENDER CHRISTOPHER TORRANCE PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT
A Clydebank repeat sex offender crept into a woman’s bedroom while she was asleep beside her boyfriend and sexually assaulted her.Christopher Torrance was placed on the sex offenders register in 2015 and was to remain on it until 2022, but he reoffended in 2016.
Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last Tuesday that the 35-year-old pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a 29-year-old woman by touching her private parts.
Torrance, whose address was given as Barlinnie Prison, committed this offence between July 1 and August 31, 2016, at a flat in John Knox Street.
The court was told that Torrance was invited there for drinks, and the complainant had been playing computer games with her partner until 2 am.
She went to bed and was naked, with her partner also asleep.
Torrance entered her bedroom, went underneath the covers, and she woke up distressed.
She kicked out at her partner who woke up to find Torrance at the bottom of the bed with his hands still underneath the covers, and she was shaking, crying, and in hysterics.
Prosecutor Kevin Doherty said Torrance appeared in private court earlier on June 20, 2018, and bail was refused, with him being remanded in custody.
He is a registered sex offender until January 12, 2022, following his 2015 Clydebank conviction.
Torrance had been at the flat for drinks and was playing computer games until 2 am when the assault occurred.
Police interviewed Torrance on June 19, 2018, after he was questioned and cautioned, but he made no reply.
Defense lawyer Ian Breachoney reserved his comments until sentencing after reports.
Sheriff Simon Pender emphasized the seriousness of the matter, especially given his status on the sex offenders' register.
Torrance was remanded until sentencing on November 15, pending a full social background report.
