A SEX offender who police fear was grooming children has avoided a jail sentence.Christopher Roberts, 24, of Taplings Road, Weeke, was found to have breached court orders and re-offended by possessing and creating indecent images of girls, as heard in Winchester Crown Court.The court was told that Roberts had been given a sex offences prevention order (SOPO) to help reduce his risk of re-offending, but apparently did not take it seriously.The judge, Mr Recorder Stuart Jones QC, handed Roberts a five-month jail sentence that was suspended for two years

Additionally, he imposed a three-year supervision order requiring him to attend a sex offender treatment program.Roberts had admitted to possessing indecent images and making seven counts of creating them, involving a total of 21 pictures

He also admitted breaching the SOPO orders imposed in 2009, which included failing to notify a change of address and not informing his new girlfriends about his sex offender status.The judge established a new sex offender prevention order with four conditions:No contact with children under 16No entering domestic premises where he would expect to find children under 16No accessing the Internet unless computer monitoring software approved by police is installedProhibited from forming relationships unless disclosed to probation or police
