EX-MILITARY MAN FOUND WITH CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND MUNITIONS IN HIGHLAND PERTHSHIRE RAID
Police who raided the home of a man identified as Christopher Moore after receiving a tip-off about child abuse images discovered additional alarming items in his residence.During the search, officers found two green cylinders marked as ‘bomb’ and ‘explosives’ on the floor of Moore's flat in the quiet Highland Perthshire town of Aberfeldy.
This discovery prompted the activation of the bomb squad, and examiners found that the ammunition and mortars inside the cylinders were either empty or posed no threat, though some live bullets were present.
Moore, a 37-year-old ex-military man, had initially volunteered to officers, saying, “I need to show you something that I’m probably going to get the jail for,” after which he produced a paint tub containing what he described as 'merely trophies' of live ammunition.
Police also recovered 16 live link bullets, along with 23 images of children, categorized as A, B, and C in severity, with six being the most serious.
Moore admitted to downloading the images between September 26, 2012, and July 27, 2020, and possessing the link bullets without a firearms certificate on July 27.
The court heard he had sought help from a charity called ‘Stop It Now!’ and that he was a first offender.
His name was subsequently added to the Sex Offenders’ Register, and he was convicted at Perth Sheriff Court.
The ammunition was forfeited, and Moore’s sentencing was deferred until December 13, 2021, while he continued to work with rehabilitative charity programs.
The court also noted that he was previously a miner but had to give up his job because of the court proceedings, and he was now employed in deliveries.
Sheriff Gillian Wade emphasized the importance of monitoring his progress, with a follow-up scheduled in six months.
