ANDREW THOMAS OF PERTHSHIRE REOFFENDS WITH VOYEURISM INCIDENT

Andrew Thomas, aged 49, with a troubling history of voyeuristic offences, has been caught once again secretly recording a woman, ten years after a previous similar incident.

In court, Thomas admitted to covertly filming a 65-year-old woman inside her Perthshire home over a six-month period from January to July 2023. He concealed a mobile phone—equipped with a camera and power bank—inside a vase of artificial flowers placed at the foot of her bed.

The offence was uncovered on July 29 when the woman noticed something unusual inside the vase. Upon closer inspection, she found the hidden device—a white iPhone secured with Velcro—whose lens was pointed directly at her bed. The phone had recorded nearly 41 hours of footage, capturing her in various states of undress.

After notifying her daughter, who is a police officer, the phone was examined. Authorities found 34 video files containing intimate recordings of the woman, some of which showed her fully naked.

Thomas's criminal history includes a 2013 court appearance for secretly filming a female colleague showering aboard a North Sea oil rig. He pleaded guilty at Perth Sheriff Court to the latest offence. Sheriff Alison McKay deferred sentencing to allow for background reports and ordered that he be placed on the sex offenders register. She highlighted the seriousness of the crime and referenced his prior conviction in her remarks.
