THUG JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING EX-PARTNER AND BREAKING HER BONES
A VIOLENT thug has been jailed after repeatedly assaulting his former partner with such force that she broken multiple bones.Christopher Hughes, of Wildespool Causeway, appeared before Chester Crown Court today, Friday, via video link.
Prosecuting, Phillip Clemo told the court that the 41-year-old had been in a relationship with his former partner for around 12 years before they separated in August 2024.
During this relationship, the court heard that Hughes violently assaulted his ex-partner and the mother of his children so severely that he broken several of her bones.
The first of these assaults took place in April 2015, when a drunken Hughes had been screaming at his partner before punching her repeatedly in the face and broke her jaw.
She attended hospital, but did not tell staff who assaulted her and did not report it to the police.
Then on February 29, 2020, Hughes was drunk once again when he began to kick his partner repeatedly.
The following day, when his victim woke up and was still in pain, she called an ambulance and was taken to hospital.
She was told that one of her ribs was fractured and that she had suffered a partially collapsed lung which had to be reinflated.
On January 1, 2023, the pair had been drinking before returning to her home where he strangled her in the bathroom so hard that she went unconscious.
When she later stirred, she discovered that one of her arms had been broken.
"I worry about seeing him again," an impact statement written by the victim said.
"Hopefully I will never see him again.
I would like to move forward with my life and my children’s lives and make the best I possibly can." The court heard that Hughes has an extensive criminal history made up of 30 offences, including two battery convictions and a previous imprisonment for GBH.
Defending, Richard Evans told the court that the 41-year-old ‘apologises for his behaviour’ and that ‘this has been a very important life lesson’ for him.
"He is probably a different man now, sober and calm in HMP Altcourse than he was when attacking his loved one at home," said Judge Simon Berkson.
It was heard that Hughes has been undertaking courses while on remand and hopes to seek employment upon his release.
"You acted with such violent to the person you claimed to love at that time that you broke her ribs and caused her lung to collapse.
These offences are so serious that only immediate custody must follow.
This is a case where it is clear to me that alcohol is what caused you to act in the way that you have." Hughes was sentenced to a total of four years imprisonment and a restraining order was put in place to protect his victim for 15 years.
