CHRISTIAN TAYLOR, 41, JAILED IN WARRINGTON FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AT PEEL HALL PARK

In February 2019, Christian Taylor, aged 41 and originally from Macclesfield, was sentenced to prison for sexual misconduct at Peel Hall Park in Warrington. The case was heard via video link from HMP Altcourse at Liverpool Crown Court, where Judge Brian Cummings described the incidents as ‘alarming.’

Prosecutor Simon Duncan recounted that on November 18, around 1.35 pm, a group of five children were playing in a wooded section of Peel Hall Park, Houghton Green. The children observed a man behind the bushes with his trousers down, initially believing he was going to the toilet. One child reported seeing the man’s hand moving up and down on his penis multiple times.

Additionally, another child approached Taylor, who made lewd remarks, and yet another reported Taylor whispering, ‘Please lie.’ Later, one of the children’s fathers received a call at 2.10 pm, in which the child said someone was following him with his penis exposed. The father went to locate the children, where Taylor claimed he was just urinating.

The father responded by calling the police and detained Taylor when the man attempted to flee until officers arrived. Taylor admitted to being on the sex offenders’ register but claimed he needed to urinate and stopped upon seeing the children.

The mother of two victims stated that her children have not played outside since the incident, expressing her feelings: “I feel like the man has taken their childhood.”

Taylor has prior convictions, including a 15-month suspended sentence for engaging in sexual activity in front of a child in public toilets, handed down at Chester Crown Court in August 2017. His defense lawyer, Jeremy Rawson, explained that Taylor did not enter a guilty plea at magistrates’ court and emphasized his current employment as a prison mentor, with limited family contact.

Taylor complied with the community-based part of his previous sentence until he breached it. The judge highlighted the serious nature of his offenses, especially given his history, multiple victims, and the public setting.

Judge Cummings stated, “You committed four offenses involving masturbating in front of young boys in a park. There are serious aggravating factors—your previous convictions, multiple victims, and the location and timing in a very public place. I am quite satisfied that there is a significant risk from you to members of the public, especially young boys. The fact that you have committed these offenses so soon afterward suggests a very powerful urge to offend.”

As a result, Taylor was sentenced to eight years in prison for four counts of engaging in sexual activity in front of a child, with an additional 12 months, to run concurrently, for breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
