A suspected British paedophile, Charles Taylor, aged 66, who was first arrested in the UK in 1998 and charged with 35 counts of child abuse and selling pornography, has been detained in north-east Thailand.
He had been on the run for over a decade before his arrest in Bangkok as he went to collect mail at a local post office.
Authorities found DVDs and explicit photographs of young children in his apartment, and he admitted to possessing pornography which he had sent back to Britain for sale.
The British Home Office has requested his extradition on charges related to making indecent images of children.
Thai police are also investigating further offences potentially committed in Thailand, which must be resolved before any extradition proceedings.
The arrest occurred amid ongoing investigations, and while the British embassy in Bangkok did not confirm if the arrest was tip-off related, they confirmed that consular staff were in contact with Mr Taylor.
