CARTON CHESNEY-MITCHELL SHOCKS WYTHENSHAWE WITH CRUELTY TO BELGIAN MALINOIS ANNE

In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Wythenshawe, Manchester, Carlton Chesney-Mitchell, born on 13 September 2002 and residing on Greenbrow Road, was found guilty of severe animal cruelty involving his pet dog, Anne, a Belgian Malinois. The incident, which was captured on CCTV footage and subsequently shared on social media, revealed a brutal attack on the defenseless animal, prompting swift action from authorities and widespread condemnation.

According to reports, the footage showed Chesney-Mitchell engaging in violent acts against Anne in June of the previous year. The video depicted a man dressed in dark trousers, a blue hoodie, and a black balaclava cycling towards an open garden from a nearby field. He then dismounted his bicycle, threw it to the ground, and was heard shouting, “come here.” Moments later, a medium-sized brown dog appeared in the frame, only to be subjected to a series of aggressive kicks and throws. The man was seen kicking Anne in the face and then enticing her back before delivering additional kicks.

Throughout the footage, Chesney-Mitchell was heard uttering aggressive commands such as “Stop pissing me off and fucking running off, stop it,” before striking Anne twice with his right hand. He then grabbed her by the neck with both hands, lifted her into the air, and threw her. The dog was seen spinning mid-air before landing on her feet and running away into the field. As he mounted his bicycle to leave, the man was heard calling her a “fucking piece of shit.”

Following the incident, the RSPCA was alerted to the footage and launched an investigation. Inspector Deborah Beats, who led the inquiry, explained that she managed to identify the individual responsible after initial difficulties. She reached out to the public for information and was eventually contacted by a member of the community who provided details about the dog and its owner. Chesney-Mitchell was subsequently located at a residence where he was with his two-year-old Belgian Malinois, Anne.

Inspector Beats recounted that she met Chesney-Mitchell at the address provided and arranged for Anne to be examined by a veterinarian. Fortunately, the dog was found to have no physical injuries, which was a relief given the severity of the footage. However, the vet report indicated that Anne was extremely nervous during the examination and had likely experienced pain and emotional distress during the attack. The report detailed that Anne’s fear behaviors, such as cowering and avoiding eye contact, suggested long-lasting psychological effects. It was also noted that she would have suffered mild soft tissue injuries, causing discomfort and difficulty in walking and engaging in normal activities for several days after the incident.

The court was presented with the vet’s findings, which confirmed that Anne had endured unnecessary suffering inflicted by Chesney-Mitchell. The report emphasized that the attacks—kicking, hitting, and throwing—occurred at least five times within the footage, with no justification or provocation. The authorities highlighted that Anne was not posing any threat or harm to her owner or anyone else at the time, making the cruelty even more egregious.

As a result of the case, a deprivation order was issued, allowing the RSPCA to rehome Anne and ensure her safety. Inspector Beats expressed her relief that the case had reached a conclusion, stating, “This was a shocking and completely unnecessary attack on this poor dog. I’m glad this case has concluded and Anne can now find the loving forever home she deserves.”

Chesney-Mitchell was sentenced to a 12-month community order, which includes 20 days of rehabilitation activities and 100 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, he was ordered to pay £200 in costs and a £114 victim surcharge. A two-year ban on keeping dogs was also imposed, which will expire in March 2026. The case has garnered significant attention from local media outlets, including the Manchester Evening News and ITV News, highlighting the importance of animal welfare and the consequences of cruelty.
