CARL DYSON FROM BLURTON SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC CHILD RAPE NEAR STOKE-ON-TRENT

In January 2015, a disturbing case unfolded in Blurton, where Carl Dyson, a father of four, was convicted and subsequently sentenced for heinous crimes involving a young schoolgirl. Dyson was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a minor, including rape, attempted rape, causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and sexual assault.

The incident took place near a secluded area on the outskirts of Stoke-on-Trent, where Dyson had set up a makeshift tent in a remote spot close to a wooded area and playing fields. It was here that he lured the young girl, whose age was under 13, into the tent under false pretenses. The court heard that Dyson engaged in a series of sexual assaults over a period, touching her inappropriately both over and under her clothing, and taking explicit photographs of her on his mobile phone.

Prosecutor Mark Heywood detailed the gravity of the situation, stating, “The defendant erected a tent and invited the girl inside where he took the opportunity to abuse her.” The court was also shown evidence from Dyson’s seized computer, which contained photographs depicting the girl in situations of clear indecency. The most serious allegations included oral rape and an attempt to rape the young girl, acts that left a lasting impact on her.

Dyson, who was formerly residing on Waterside Drive in Blurton, denied all charges, including rape of a child under 13, attempted rape, and multiple counts of causing or inciting sexual activity with a minor. However, after a trial last month, the jury found him guilty of all 13 charges.

During the proceedings, defense lawyer Anis Ali acknowledged Dyson’s remorse, stating that his client now accepts responsibility and the jury’s verdict. Ali explained that Dyson chose to go to trial out of fear of retribution and the potential loss of his family. He also emphasized that the girl was not physically harmed or injured during the incidents.

Judge David Fletcher addressed the court, highlighting the premeditated nature of Dyson’s actions. He noted that Dyson had deliberately isolated the girl, grooming her over time and exploiting her vulnerability. The judge described the girl’s emotional state during the trial, revealing that she was in turmoil, feeling guilt and engaging in self-harm as a result of the trauma inflicted upon her.

In sentencing, Judge Fletcher imposed an 11-year prison term on Dyson, with the understanding that he will serve half of this sentence in custody and the remaining half on license. Additionally, Dyson was subjected to a 15-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO), which strictly prohibits any unsupervised contact with girls under 16. He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring and restrictions to protect the community from further harm.
