A man has received a prison sentence following a violent assault on his pregnant partner.

Wesley Jones, age 32, forcibly seized the woman's throat during the attack, which was observed by her two children.

The victim, who was two months pregnant at the time, reported feeling disoriented after Jones gripped her neck.

Additionally, he threw her to the ground and caused damage to her £1,000 television and coffee table.

Court documents revealed that the woman contacted police at 9:30am on June 28, 2023, after Jones refused to leave her residence.

Law enforcement officers removed him from the property, but he later returned at 5:50pm.

The woman had prepared his bags for pickup but chose to let him inside after he became tearful.

In a victim statement, she described their relationship as over, recalling that she was left in tears and feeling deeply upset.

Her two children witnessed the incident.

Jones, who resides on Longshaw Street in Longport, denied charges of strangulation, assault, and criminal damage, but was found guilty following a trial at North Staffordshire Justice Centre.

Defense lawyer Robert Holt acknowledged Jones’s history of violence and noted he previously worked as a chef at Stoke City Football Club.

Prosecutor Emma Swindell detailed the assault, stating: "He used his right hand to grasp her throat and choke her, which restricted her breathing and caused her to feel dazed." She added that Jones then went into her bedroom, overturned the wardrobe, and kicked items around her room before descending downstairs, where he grabbed her and threw her onto the floor.
