PRESTWICK CHEF SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT
A chef named Cameron Currie has been sentenced to five and a half years in prison for serious sexual offenses and assault. The court heard that Currie carried out a sexual attack on a girl in April 2012 when she was only 15 years old.
Jurors learned that the victim was left feeling "numb" after the assault, which took place at a house in Prestwick.
During the trial, it was detailed how Currie also physically abused a woman he was dating in 2016, with her describing feeling "worthless" after suffering at his hands.Currie, 23 at the time of sentencing, insisted on his innocence, but Lady Rae told him he did not seem to recognize the wrongdoing.
The judge sentenced him to five and a half years and placed him on the sex offenders register.
The court outlined the circumstances of the initial rape, where Currie and the victim had split up after dating in 2011, but then reconnected, leading to the attack.
The victim reported that she tried to push Currie away multiple times, saying "no" and "stop," but he ignored her protests, stating, "I cannot stop now I have started." She described feeling "frozen" and "numb" during the assault, and later, she was "physically shaking and having pain in her ribs from him leaning on me."She also recounted how she felt "worthless" and struggled to eat or speak afterward, refusing contact with others and experiencing a panic attack when she saw Currie again.
It was only years later that she confided in her mother, and police began investigating allegations against Currie.
In 2016, Currie preyed on a second woman, attacking her after she made him food.
This woman also described feeling "worthless" and lasting for hours, during which Currie told her it was her fault.
Both victims suffered psychologically, and Currie was ultimately convicted of rape and assault, leading to his imprisonment.
Throughout the trial, Currie's legal counsel argued he maintained his innocence, but the judge expressed concern about his attitude, indicating he did not seem to accept responsibility.
