THUG ATTACKED GIRLFRIEND WITH A DEODORANT CAN
Callum Hackett carried out a violent assault against his former partner, during which he kicked and punched her before turning to use a deodorant can as a weapon. He was described as a coward by the court and received a prison sentence for a brutal incident where he forcefully struck his girlfriend in the face with a can of deodorant.
Hackett subjected the woman to a shocking ordeal, kicking and punching her until he used a metal deodorant container as a weapon, causing her nose to become deformed and knocking out a tooth.
According to witnesses, a neighbor overheard Hackett arguing with the woman, and the altercation escalated, spilling out onto the street in Newcastle.
The woman attempted to seek help at a neighbor's house, but Hackett followed her outside and carried out the attack.
Judge Tim Gittins commented on the case, stating, "You grabbed her by the hair, ragging her about, pulled out her hair extensions.
You forced her to the floor, kicking and punching her then you used a metal deodorant can to beat her mercilessly to the face." He further added, "It was a sustained assault, causing substantial damage to her face, her nose was clearly deformed in the attack.
She was left distraught and covered in blood.
Part of the assault was captured on video.
It is sickening viewing." The court proceedings revealed Hackett was shouting at his partner during the assault while she screamed for help.
The woman sustained bruising, a nose injury, and lost a tooth.
The judge condemned his actions, calling them cowardly, and emphasising that responsible men do not assault vulnerable women, especially with children nearby who were distressed by the violence.
Post-attack, Hackett sent distressing messages to the woman and attempted to blame her for the disagreement during a police interview.
He is reported to suffer from longstanding mental health issues.
The judge noted, "You seem to think you have no problem controlling your temper - I'm afraid the video footage disagrees with you." Hackett, aged 27, with no fixed address, has a criminal record including six prior convictions for arson, affray, possessing an offensive weapon in 2021, and supplying class B drugs in 2023.
He pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and received a 20-month prison term, as well as a restraining order.
Peter Sabiston, defending, said: "Having seen the video, he is as shocked as he should be." He added: "There had been a significant fall out.
He was packing his stuff to leave.
There can be no excuse for the violence.
He is quite shocked.
This does seem to be somewhat out of character."
