INVERNESS MAN, 28, CAUGHT WITH TEEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA, GETS PROBATION
A 28-year-old man, Callum Crockett, who met a teenage girl on social media and engaged in illegal sex acts with her, has been sentenced to social work supervision.Crockett, now aged 30, from Church Street, Inverness, previously admitted to the sex offence committed between January 5 and January 21, 2020, at a residence in Inverness.
He was also registered as a sex offender for the same period.
The court was told that the girl was just 15 years old at the time and had shared her passport with Crockett online, indicating her age.
Despite this, Crockett engaged in sexual activity with her, which was consensual from her side, according to the court records.
The case came to light after her schoolfriends informed a teacher that she was having sex with an older man.
Police investigation revealed the girl traveled to Inverness regularly to meet Crockett, whom she believed to be her partner.
During proceedings, it was established that Crockett was aware of her age beforehand.
The sentence imposed includes a year's social work supervision, and he has been placed on the sex offenders register.
This case highlights the dangers of social media interactions with minors and the legal consequences of engaging in sexual activities with underage individuals.
