JAILED OVER 12-YEAR 'TIDE OF HARASSMENT'
A man who persisted in a pattern of harassment against his former partner and repeatedly violated a court order has been sentenced to prison.During a hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, it was revealed that Bryan Stubbs, aged 65, sent an explicit photograph to his ex-partner on March 3.
The woman had endured over 12 years of harassment from him.
Stubbs admitted to breaching a restraining order through harassment and also to a second charge of sending a pornographic image intended to cause alarm, distress, or humiliation, just six days after being released following a previous breach.
Prosecutor Tim Evans stated: "He just won't stop until he is locked up." Approximately a decade ago, Stubbs was issued an indefinite restraining order forbidding any contact with his former partner.
The court was informed that he repeatedly violated this order by contacting the woman, resulting in several immediate custodial sentences.
The woman was at her workplace when she received two messages containing images from an unfamiliar phone number at around 07:20 GMT.
The first image depicted Stubbs' genitals graphically, and the second showed a room she did not recognise.
Mr.
Evans reported that the woman was "immediately disgusted" upon seeing the first photo.
She was accompanied by a colleague at the time, which caused her further embarrassment.
The court heard that she had discussed these incidents with a friend aware of Stubbs’s ongoing harassment.
The woman explained they had been together for two months before separating due to his controlling and possessive behaviour.
She described her frustration, saying: "He just won't leave me alone or allow me to fully get on with my life." Regarding Stubbs’s repeated violations, the prosecutor commented: "She said as soon as he gets the chance to breach the order, he does.
He just won't stop until he is locked up." Stubbs received a three-year prison sentence and was told he would serve at least 40 percent of that term.
Justice Mark Ainsworth warned him: "You must understand that if you keep on committing this offence then the sentence that the court imposes will be at this level, time and time again; and, frankly, you will spend longer and longer in prison."
