LONDON RAPIST BRUNO PEREIRA SENTENCED TO 12 YEARS FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT
A man named Bruno Andre Miguel Pereira, aged 21, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of a brutal and callous rape in Brixton Hill, London. The attack took place in the early hours of August 2nd last year when Pereira approached his victim in Tudor Close.
He initially asked for a lighter, sat with her, and then followed a violent assault.
Pereira attempted to kiss her, placed his hand under her skirt, and became forceful when she tried to resist.
He then dragged her into the bushes and raped her during an attack lasting up to 20 minutes.
During the court proceedings, Judge Usha Karu described the crime as heinous, noting Pereira's previous convictions for four sexual assaults involving girls aged 13 to 15 in 2007, when he was at school.
DNA evidence from a discarded cigarette was used to identify Pereira.
Prosecutors stated that Pereira poses a high risk of serious harm to women.
The victim expressed her feelings of anger and trauma, saying the attack would affect her life permanently but hoped that Pereira might receive help and not reoffend.
The court emphasized Pereira’s propensity for violence, and the jury convicted him of one count of rape in December.
He was told he posed a significant threat, and his sentence reflects the seriousness of his crime, aiming to protect other women from further harm.
Outside the court, the victim shared her emotional response, stating that she wished the attacker had been locked away for good, but she also believed that he might benefit from rehabilitation because of his young age.
