BRUCE LAWSON SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR DEPRAVED SEXUAL ABUSE IN ABERDEEN
In a case that has shocked the community, Bruce Lawson, a 36-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record exceeding 70 convictions, was sentenced to four years in prison for the sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl in Aberdeen. The incident, which occurred last December, was thoroughly examined by the High Court in Glasgow, where Judge Lord Woolman presided over the proceedings.According to court reports, Lawson’s behavior during the attack was described as 'depraved' and highly disturbing. The court heard that Lawson had made a series of inappropriate and indecent remarks to the young girl prior to the assault. He also showed her an adult video, further demonstrating his predatory conduct. The assault itself was confirmed through forensic evidence, as Lawson’s DNA was detected on the teenager’s breast, establishing a direct link to the crime.
Following the attack, Lawson’s actions took a disturbing turn. He was heard shouting, 'it's just a joke. I'm no paedo,' as he chased the girl into the street immediately after the incident on 30 December. This aggressive pursuit and his attempt to dismiss the severity of his actions drew significant concern from the court. Witnesses also reported that Lawson had performed a sex act on a young woman while the girl watched, although Lawson denied any sexual conduct, claiming he was aware of her age but insisted that nothing sexual occurred during that act.
The court also heard that Lawson’s behavior was not limited to the assault itself. His prior conduct included making inappropriate remarks and engaging in sexually explicit acts in the presence of the girl, which contributed to the court’s assessment of his actions as 'depraved.'
Lawson’s sentencing includes a supervision period of two additional years following his release from prison, during which authorities will closely monitor his conduct. The victim, who is now suffering from flashbacks related to the trauma, is expected to undergo counseling to aid her recovery. The judge emphasized the gravity of Lawson’s actions, highlighting the aggressive chasing, shouting, and prior inappropriate advances as evidence of his disturbing behavior. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness with which such offenses are regarded and the need for ongoing supervision to prevent further harm.
