MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER OF ELDERLY MOTHER IN INVERNESS
A man named Bruce Davis, aged 53, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for attempting to murder his mother in a drink-fueled attack on New Year’s Day in Inverness.During the assault, Davis tried to strangle his 78-year-old mother, who was in a wheelchair, with her jumper, and also kicked her and threw furniture at her.
The victim later described the incident, saying, “I thought he was going to kill me.
He seemed hell-bent on it.” Davis had initially denied the attempted murder but was convicted following a trial at the High Court in Inverness.
Throughout the attack, Davis seized her hair, placed his arms around her throat, and strangled her, all while she was in terror.
Considering the severity of the assault, which left the woman bleeding, bruised, and with fractures to her jaw, leg, and ribs, he was found guilty and received a sentence of ten years, with the sentence backdated to January last year when he was first taken into custody.
The victim, who later died, had told police she believed Davis was attempting to kill her, and she expressed fear and trauma from the event.
During the court proceedings, the judge emphasized the gravity of the crime, noting that the victim was an elderly disabled woman and that Davis inflicted serious injury upon her.
The court also heard that Davis had a previous conviction for attempted murder from his youth, although the defense claimed this was mistaken.
Davis was seen via video link following his sentencing, which was handed down in the High Court in Edinburgh.
