GLASGOW CARER BRIAN MCFADDEN BANNED FOR SEXUALLY ASSAULTING TWO WOMEN
Brian McFadden, a Glasgow-based care worker, has been officially reprimanded and prohibited from participating in the social services sector after being convicted of sexually abusing two vulnerable women. His conviction was handed down at Glasgow Sheriff Court in June and involved multiple incidents of sexual misconduct.
In July 2020, McFadden touched one woman's bottom, made sexual comments and gestures, entered her room without permission, kissed her on the mouth, and touched her body underneath her clothing.
Between December 2020 and February 2021, he engaged in similar behaviour with another woman, including touching her bottom, making sexual remarks, arriving uninvited at her room, and standing close to her.
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) described his conduct as 'serious behaviour that caused emotional harm' and pointed out that this occurred within a context of providing support to women who had faced severe trauma.
They emphasized that his actions were deliberate and purposeful.
It was further highlighted that McFadden's misconduct happened during both working hours and outside of them, and that he did not cooperate with the investigation or recognize the gravity of his actions.
As a consequence, he was removed from the official care register, barring him permanently from employment within the industry.
The SSSC reiterates that social workers are prohibited from harming, abusing, or neglecting service users, and described McFadden's behaviour as 'extremely serious,' falling far below the expected professional standards.
The removal order was enacted on Thursday, with the regulator asserting that this was the most suitable penalty to maintain the public’s trust in the caregiving profession.
