BRIAN BEVAN FROM KENILWORTH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

In a case that has shocked the community of Kenilworth, a 60-year-old man named Brian Bevan has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to multiple serious charges related to the sexual abuse of a young boy and the possession of indecent images of children.

Bevan, whose residence is on Guy Road in Kenilworth, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a boy who is now in his twenties. The abuse spanned several years during the 1980s, a period during which the victim was a young child. The court heard that the abuse began when the boy was approximately nine years old and continued until he was 15.

The case was brought to light after police seized computer equipment from Bevan’s home in June. Investigators discovered a disturbing collection of child pornography images stored on his hard drive and floppy disks. These findings played a significant role in the prosecution’s case, which was led by John Butterfield. The evidence revealed that Bevan had been involved in creating and possessing indecent images of children, with a total of ten charges related to this activity, along with one additional charge of possessing indecent images.

Following his arrest, the victim, now in his twenties, contacted the police to disclose that he had been sexually abused by Bevan over several years. He recounted that the abuse began when he was nine years old and was perpetrated by Bevan, who was a friend of his parents. The first incident reportedly occurred at a wedding in the mid-1980s. The victim described how Bevan would take advantage of opportunities when they were alone together to commit these acts of abuse.

The court was told that the abuse ceased when the victim turned 15, but the emotional scars remained. The victim revealed that he suffered from depression and suicidal thoughts, even attempting to take his own life at one point. During police questioning, Bevan admitted that the offences were committed a long time ago, claiming he had forgotten about them but acknowledged that they had indeed happened.

In his defense, Philip Brown argued that Bevan was living with his 92-year-old mother and expressed remorse for his actions. Brown stated that Bevan hated himself for what he had done and that, without the support of his mother, he might have taken his own life.

Judge Richard Cole, presiding over the case, acknowledged the pain that Bevan’s imprisonment would cause his mother but emphasized that justice required a custodial sentence. Bevan was therefore sentenced to six years in prison, and he was ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from further harm.
