BRETT BAKER SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS IN PRISON FOR SEXUAL ABUSE IN ESSEX

A man who raped and sexually abused a child has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Brett Baker, 33, was taken into custody after concerns were raised about a young victim in the Thurrock area of Essex in 2021.

During police interviews, the child disclosed that Baker had sexually abused her on multiple occasions.

Baker, of River View, Grays, was found guilty at Basildon Crown Court after a week-long trial, which included 10 sexual offences.

The offences comprised two counts of rape of a girl under 13, four counts of assault of a girl under 13 by penetration, and four additional charges of sexual assault of a girl under 13.

Essex Police confirmed that Baker had a prior record of multiple sexual offences.

Detective Constable Jeffery Wainman commented, "It’s difficult to comprehend the suffering that Baker has caused the young victim.

Her bravery in speaking with us and outlining Baker’s behaviour should never be underestimated." Baker will be registered on the sex offenders register for life and has been issued a sexual harm prevention order, which will remain in force indefinitely.
