BRANDON CHARITE SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT IN KIRKCALDY

A man named Brandon Charite is now facing a potentially lengthy prison term after being found guilty of heinous crimes involving a young woman in Kirkcaldy.

The incident took place in April 2015, when Charite, then 21 years old, carried out a brutal attack on a 21-year-old woman inside a residential property in Kirkcaldy.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard harrowing details of the assault, during which Charite subjected the victim to a violent and terrifying ordeal.

The court was told that he punched and kicked her repeatedly, threatening to kill her in the process.

The assault escalated to a sexual nature, with Charite violently raping the woman, leaving her traumatized and fearful for her life.

The case came to light after a jury deliberated and returned guilty verdicts on charges of rape and assault.

The victim, in her testimony, recounted the terrifying moments she endured at the hands of Charite.

She told the prosecution lawyer, Steven Borthwick, that Charite had punched her, kicked her, and thrown her around during the attack.

She also revealed that he had threatened her with death, saying, “He punched me.

He kicked me.

He has thrown me about and he threatened me.

He basically told me if I said anything, he would end me.

I was scared.” At the time of the trial, Charite was detained at YOI Polmont.

Throughout the proceedings, he maintained his innocence, denying all charges brought against him.

However, the jury’s verdict confirmed his guilt, and he now faces the consequences of his actions.

During the sentencing hearing, the court was informed that Charite had a troubling criminal history.

It was revealed that he had previous convictions for assaulting police officers, breaching bail conditions, and breaching probation.

This pattern of behavior contributed to the seriousness of his current conviction.

Judge Lady Stacey, presiding over the case, decided to defer sentencing to allow for further assessments of Charite’s character and risk level.

She expressed her concern about his record, stating, “You have a shocking record and you have been convicted of very serious offences.

I am going to defer sentence to obtain a risk assessment and to see whether the imposition of an extended sentence is appropriate in this case.” Charite’s sentencing has been scheduled for May 27 at the High Court in Edinburgh, where a judge will determine the appropriate punishment based on the reports and assessments.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the severity of the crimes and the defendant’s criminal background, highlighting ongoing concerns about violence and sexual assault in the community of Kirkcaldy.

Brandon Charite, 32, was originally jailed for 54 months in 2016 after being convicted of raping and assaulting a woman in Kirkcaldy during a terrifying attack.

But since his release, Charite has continued to rack up a string of violent offences.

The serial offender has already served further prison sentences for assaulting someone with a metal pole and for additional assaults to injury in 2020 and again in 2024.

Now the repeat offender is back in court yet again.

At Dundee Sheriff Court, Charite admitted breaching his bail conditions for the tenth time.

The court heard he had been granted bail on June 24, 2025, with a strict condition that he remain inside his home on High Street East in Anstruther between 7pm and 7am.

However, between September 12 and November 8, the sex offender was found absent from the address on multiple occasions, blatantly ignoring the court-ordered curfew.

Sheriff John Rafferty noted that Charite’s two most recent convictions had already resulted in prison sentences, highlighting his persistent offending.

Sentencing has now been deferred until April while a social work background report is prepared.

Charite has been ordered to appear in court again, where a decision will be made on whether the repeat offender will be sent back to prison once more.
