A man who "physically, emotionally and psychologically" abused a woman has been sentenced to three years and three months in prison and has been subject to an eight-year restraining order.Benjamin Turner, aged 36 from Willow Corner, Bayford, near Hertford, threatened his victim with statements like he would kill her before she managed to escape by jumping out of a first-floor window.During his court appearance at Huntingdon Crown Court, Turner admitted charges including two counts of threatening to kill, coercive and controlling behaviour, unlawful wounding, and strangulation.Police responded after Turner assaulted the victim, grabbing her around the neck and threatening to kill her.
The victim fought him off, jumped from the window, and sought help from a neighbor.
Authorities discovered previous violent incidents over several months, including an attempt to strangle her and pushing her into a mirror, which cut her face.
Turner also prevented her from seeking medical attention and stayed with her overnight to prevent her from visiting the hospital.Det Con Jordan Critchley commented, "He threatened to kill her, and I believe that had she not escaped from his clutches that day, he may well have followed through with that threat.
I want to thank the victim for her bravery.
Her actions resulted in a dangerous man being incarcerated, and I hope she can now recover and move on with her life."
