EAST HERTS MAN JAILED FOR OFFENCES AGAINST WOMAN
A man from East Herts has been sentenced to over three years in prison and received an eight-year restraining order after admitting to a series of violent offenses committed against a woman.Ben Turner, 38, pleaded guilty to charges including threatening to kill, coercive and controlling conduct, causing grievous bodily harm through assault, and strangulation.
Earlier this year, police were called to respond to an incident where Turner assaulted the woman and held her around the neck, threatening her with death.
She escaped by jumping out of a first-floor window and then sought help at a neighbor’s home.
Further investigation uncovered a history of violent acts committed by Turner over several months.
These included an earlier attempt to strangle her and pushing her into a mirror, which resulted in a facial injury.
He kept her from getting medical care by staying with her overnight to prevent her from visiting a hospital.
She was too afraid to contact authorities at the time.
Turner, who previously lived at Willow Corner, Bayford, near Hertford, was sentenced at Huntingdon Crown Court on October 23 to a term of 39 months in prison.
An eight-year restraining order was also issued, prohibiting him from contacting the victim or visiting an address in Stanstead Abbotts.
Detective Constable Jordan Critchley from the East Herts Local Crime Unit stated: “Turner subjected the woman to physical, emotional and psychological abuse over several months.
“He threatened to kill her and I believe had she not escaped from his clutches on that day, that he may well have followed through with that threat.
“I would like to thank the victim for her bravery.
Her actions have led to a dangerous man being put behind bars.
I hope she can now recover from this ordeal and move on with her life.”
