INVERNESS BABYSITTER BENJAMIN CAMERON SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ACT IN DISABLED GIRL'S BEDROOM
In June 2019, a disturbing incident involving a babysitter from Inverness came to light, leading to serious legal consequences for Benjamin Cameron.The case centered around Cameron, who was found guilty of engaging in a sexual act within the bedroom of a disabled girl while she was asleep, an act that has shocked the local community and raised concerns about child safety and supervision.
Benjamin Cameron, aged 34 and residing on Kingsview Terrace in Inverness, was sentenced to a term of 27 months in prison.
Prior to sentencing, he had been remanded in custody but failed to meet with social workers for a pre-sentencing background report, which is a standard procedure in such cases.
The report was requested by Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood, who presided over the case after Cameron admitted guilt during an earlier hearing.
The Inverness Sheriff Court heard harrowing details of the incident, which took place on August 12, 2018, at a residence in Inverness.
It was revealed that Cameron had entered the girl’s bedroom while she was sleeping and carried out a sex act on himself in her presence.
The court was shown CCTV footage, installed by the girl’s parents to monitor her safety, which captured Cameron’s activity.
This evidence played a crucial role in establishing the facts of the case.
During the proceedings, defense lawyer Neil Wilson acknowledged that Cameron had failed to attend the initial meeting with social workers, which was a breach of court orders.
Wilson explained that Cameron was working at the time and suggested that if Cameron had contacted him, he would have advised him that the court could impose jail time, emphasizing the importance of attending such meetings to avoid breaching bail conditions.
Despite this, Cameron’s continued denial of the incident drew criticism from Sheriff Fleetwood, who pointed out that video footage clearly showed his involvement.
In a plea of guilty, Cameron admitted to entering the girl’s bedroom while she was asleep and standing close to her while he engaged in a sexual act on himself.
The court heard that when questioned about his actions, Cameron claimed he could not remember due to consuming a large amount of alcohol at the time.
Sheriff Fleetwood sentenced Cameron to backdate his imprisonment to May 7, the date he was remanded in custody.
Additionally, Cameron was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for a period of ten years, reflecting the severity of his actions and the ongoing risk to the community.
