BASHIR JOGEE FROM BLACKBURN ESCAPES JAIL AFTER ONLINE SEXUAL PREDATION SCHEME
In a case that has drawn significant attention, Bashir Jogee, a resident of Blackburn, narrowly avoided serving time in prison after being caught in a covert operation by law enforcement officers.
The incident dates back to March 11, 2021, when Jogee, then 57 years old and wheelchair-bound, engaged in disturbing online communications with an individual he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.
According to court proceedings, Jogee initiated contact through online platforms, where he asked the supposed minor if she 'liked his penis,' a clear indication of his inappropriate intentions.
The police, operating undercover and posing as the young girl, managed to gather evidence of his predatory behavior.
On the same day, Jogee also attempted to persuade the girl to view an explicit image depicting sexual activity involving another person.
Law enforcement officials swooped in on Jogee’s address in Blackburn after collecting sufficient evidence.
He was arrested and subsequently appeared in Preston Crown Court, where he faced serious charges.
Supported by two members of his family during the court proceedings, Jogee pleaded guilty in May to the charges brought against him.
The court heard that Jogee had attempted to engage in sexual communications with a minor and had also tried to induce a child aged between 13 and 15 to view explicit material.
His actions were deemed highly inappropriate and concerning, prompting the judge to deliver a stern sentence.
Judge Darren Preston sentenced Jogee to 16 months in prison, but the term was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed another offense within that period.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the crime, stating, “Make sure you don’t ever appear before this court again.” In addition to the suspended sentence, Jogee was ordered to undertake 40 days of community work supervised by probation officers.
He was also required to participate in 30 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing his behavior.
Furthermore, he was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct to protect the community from potential harm.
