BARBER HUSSAIN AND ANOTHER FOUR MEN JAILED IN BRADFORD FOR CAMPAIGN OF RAPE AGAINST VULNERABLE TEENAGER
Four men who subjected a highly vulnerable teenage girl from Keighley, West Yorkshire, to a prolonged campaign of rape have been sentenced to prison.
Prosecutors detailed that the offenders drugged and intoxicated the teenager, then systematically and repeatedly abused her.
Her traumatic ordeal took place between 2009 and 2010, resulting in long-term psychological issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
A fifth individual involved in the crimes was found guilty of three rapes and is awaiting sentencing.
Prosecutor Katherine Robinson told Bradford Crown Court that the victim, then 20 years old, came forward to police to report the abuse.
Officers observed that the older men recognized her extreme vulnerability and her issues with alcohol when they targeted her.
During the court hearing, the victim's statement was read out, in which she expressed that she had been left "unable to look after myself due to my mental health" following her experiences.
Judge Andrew Hatton, who delivered the sentence, commented, "The gross abuse she suffered at your hands is a significant factor in her current mental health." Det Chief Insp Alan Weekes of West Yorkshire Police stated, "The victim was robbed of her childhood," and added, "I hope that seeing these men imprisoned for their horrendous offences will help her begin to look forward to the future." Ed Hulbert from the Crown Prosecution Service remarked that the accused had "cynically manipulated and ruthlessly exploited a young and vulnerable girl." Concerning the sentencing, Omar Safdar, 30, of no fixed address, was sentenced to 12 years after being convicted of three counts of rape.
Imran Sabir, 42, of Spencer Street, Keighley, received a 12-year sentence for two counts of rape.
Hassan Basharat, 32, of Highfield Road, Keighley, was also sentenced to 12 years after being convicted of three counts of rape; additionally, he will serve 16 months for two counts of dangerous driving.
Barber Hussain, 36, of Thorn Lane, Bradford, was sentenced to 13 years after being convicted of seven counts of rape.
Amjad Hussain, also implicated in three rapes, is awaiting sentencing.
All five men were found guilty at a trial held in October.
