YONAS GEBREAB FROM YORKSHIRE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 5-YEAR-OLD BOY
A disturbing case of child sexual abuse has come to light involving Yonas Gebreab, a 19-year-old man from Yorkshire, who was convicted of a serious sexual assault against a five-year-old boy.The incident took place in March of the previous year, and the case only came to public attention after the victim’s older sister grew suspicious of Gebreab’s behavior and confronted him.
According to court proceedings, Gebreab lured the young boy into a toilet in an attempt to conceal his actions.
The older sister, noticing something was amiss, questioned Gebreab about what he and her brother were doing inside the restroom.
His initial response was that he was simply helping the boy wash his hands.
However, she observed that their hands appeared unusually dry, which raised her suspicions.
It was then that the boy confided in her about the assault, revealing the distressing details of what had transpired.
Following this revelation, the sister immediately contacted the police.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, arresting Gebreab at his residence on Bayswater Row, Harehills.
During police questioning, Gebreab admitted to the sexual assault, and forensic evidence collected from the scene supported the allegations against him.
Notably, Gebreab had no prior criminal record, which made this case particularly shocking.
In court, Timothy Jacobs, representing Gebreab, highlighted his client’s remorse and immaturity.
He explained that Gebreab was only 18 at the time of the offense and described him as vulnerable, noting that he was partially deaf and suffered from learning difficulties.
The defense argued that the passage of time might lessen the impact of the crime on the young victim, given Gebreab’s age and vulnerabilities.
Psychological assessments of Gebreab revealed that he was “emotionally and sexually underdeveloped,” which the court considered during sentencing.
The presiding judge, Recorder Edward Legard, delivered a stern judgment, condemning Gebreab’s actions.
He stated, “You forced him [the boy] into a degrading sexual act in order to satisfy a perverted sexual urge.
Your actions will have profound consequences for the victim and others in his family.
This kind of offending inevitably causes untold damage and distress.
What you did was unforgivable.
You took advantage of a very young child.
No doubt given his tender years, he would have trusted you implicitly.” As a result, Gebreab was sentenced to three years’ detention in a young offender institution.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offender register for life and issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), ensuring strict monitoring and restrictions to prevent any future offenses.
The case underscores the importance of vigilance and swift justice in protecting vulnerable children from predatory individuals.
