BRIXHAM SEX OFFENDER ASHLEY BRUCKSHAW JAILED IN TORQUAY AND BRIXHAM FOR FAILING TO REPORT MOVE
In a series of legal actions spanning several years, Ashley Bruckshaw, a known sex offender from Brixham, has faced multiple convictions and sentences related to his failure to comply with legal reporting requirements and his ongoing criminal behavior.Back in December 2017, Bruckshaw was sentenced to six months in prison for neglecting to inform the police about his change of address after moving from Torquay. Despite being convicted in 2012 of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl, he was mandated to register as a sex offender and to notify authorities of any alterations to his residence. However, authorities discovered that in January of that year, Bruckshaw had effectively disappeared from the police radar, only reappearing in October.
During this period of nine months, Bruckshaw was reported to have been living off food bank supplies and scavenging from bins, yet he did not commit any additional sexual offenses. His defense, presented by Michael Brown, explained that Bruckshaw had been sofa surfing in Birmingham and had voluntarily surrendered himself to police authorities in October. The court was informed that he had been living a transient lifestyle during this time, but his failure to notify police of his change of address was a breach of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Earlier, in July 2015, Bruckshaw, then aged 25, was incarcerated for six months after being found guilty of living in a cave in Torbay without informing police of his whereabouts. This was part of his ongoing punishment following his previous conviction for sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl during a game of truth or dare. Additionally, he had violated a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) by forming a friendship with a 14-year-old girl, which raised concerns about grooming and manipulation.
At Exeter Crown Court, Judge Jeremy Griggs emphasized the importance of compliance with the orders and warned Bruckshaw that future violations could result in significantly harsher sentences. Prosecutor Miss Felicity Payne highlighted that after his 2012 conviction, Bruckshaw was placed under strict controls, including living with his mother. However, after an argument, he was expelled from her residence and subsequently moved into a tent in a cave without notifying authorities of his new location.
Throughout these incidents, Bruckshaw’s actions have demonstrated a pattern of evading legal oversight and engaging in risky behaviors, despite the restrictions placed upon him. His case underscores ongoing concerns about the management and monitoring of sex offenders, especially those with a history of sexual offenses involving minors. The courts have made it clear that failure to adhere to reporting obligations and restrictions will result in severe penalties, as demonstrated by Bruckshaw’s recent sentences.
