FINCHLEY MAN JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF GIRLFRIEND
A man named Asaad Abdel-All was found guilty of manslaughter after he caused the death of his girlfriend by suffocation using a plastic bag.The victim, 33-year-old Beata Slomiana, was located at her home in Finchley's Ballards Lane roughly ten days following her death.
Abdel-All, who worked as a school caretaker, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility at the Old Bailey in November.
The court heard that Abdel-All mistakenly believed that Beata was attempting to poison him.
On the day of the incident, he was seen jumping into a pond in a nearby park wearing only his underwear.
It was further revealed that Abdel-All had admitted himself to a psychiatric hospital the day after her body was discovered.
Psychiatric evaluations diagnosed him with paranoid schizophrenia and indicated that he had not been compliant with his medication regimen at the time of the killing.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Peter Beaumont stated, "Your legal responsibility is reduced, but not entirely removed, due to your mental health condition." At the time of the death, Abdel-All was on bail for an assault charge against Beata Slomiana, who initially was from Poland.
The court also observed her intention to possibly withdraw the assault charges prior to her death.
