MAN CONVICTED OF KILLING UNBORN BABY AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND
A man named Asa Davison, aged 35, was convicted of violently attacking his pregnant girlfriend, Isabelle Irish, resulting in the tragic death of her unborn baby. The court heard that on the night of May 29, 2020, Davison and Miss Irish were in Gillingham town centre in Dorset.
After she walked away from him, CCTV footage showed Davison cycling around looking for her, following her to an address, and later chasing her back towards the town centre, where she sought help.
Witnesses described Davison treating her cruelly, including kicking her in the stomach and dragging her along the road.
Miss Irish, who was 29 weeks pregnant, sustained serious facial injuries and was taken to hospital, where it was confirmed that her baby had died in her womb.
She admitted to a friend that Davison had lost his temper and caused her injuries.
Prosecutors stated that Davison’s feelings of bitterness about raising another man's child contributed to his violent outburst.
Police recovered recordings from his phone, in which Davison expressed feelings of resentment, saying, "It broke (my) heart that the baby was not mine," and insulting her by saying, "You get little f**k baby out of my house.
I don't give a s**t about your baby." The court concluded that Davison was responsible for the death of her unborn child.
He also damaged her face and later assaulted her again in September 2020, leaving her bloodied with a swollen face.
He was convicted of child destruction, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and perverting the course of justice.
Davison was remanded in custody to be sentenced on December 21.
Detective Inspector Neil Third expressed that domestic abuse of any kind is unacceptable, especially when it results in the tragic loss of an unborn child, and urged victims to seek help.
