BIRMINGHAM MAN ANURAG JOHRI JAILED FOR LIFE FOR UNIVERSITY CAMPUS MURDER
Anurag Johri has received a life sentence in connection with the homicide of his estranged wife, Deepti Anurag, on a campus at the University of Central England in Birmingham.Reports indicate that Johri attacked Deepti with a baseball bat after gaining access to the university premises under false pretenses.
Her lifeless body was found at the Perry Barr campus location on 18 November 2005.
On Thursday, Birmingham Crown Court convicted Johri of her murder and imposed a minimum imprisonment term of 13 years.
Detective Inspector Derek Quinn from West Midlands Police commented: "Deepti Anurag was a lively and intelligent woman from India who came to the UK in 2003 with her husband Johri.
Following a breakdown in their relationship, Johri murdered her by hitting her with a baseball bat.
The conviction and sentence announced today are a triumph for justice.
I also wish to thank the University of Central England staff for their cooperation." The case involved images of both Johri and Deepti, and detailed accounts of the murder and court proceedings.
Johri's use of a baseball bat during the attack on campus resulted in his life imprisonment, with a minimum of 13 years to be served.
