SCIENCE TEACHER BANNED FOR INAPPROPRIATE MESSAGES AND CONDUCT WITH STUDENTS
A science teacher at Humphry Davy School in Penzance, Cornwall, Antony Jones, 59, has been banned indefinitely from teaching in any school, sixth form college, youth accommodation or children’s home in England after a tribunal found he engaged in inappropriate messaging with students.Mr Jones created a Facebook Messenger group chat with a former Year 11 physics class to discuss the "best looking" students and asked inappropriate questions, including suggesting he was good at guessing bra sizes.
He sent sexually motivated messages to a 16-year-old student, asked to take her out for lunch and coffee, and joined in making sexual jokes about others.
The panel concluded that Mr Jones harboured a "fondness" for pupil B, which led to him becoming attracted to her and pursuing a "remote prospect of a future sexual relationship." Despite admitting some allegations and showing remorse, the tribunal found he lacked full insight into his conduct and that the behavior could potentially be repeated, resulting in his suspension from the teaching profession.
