COVENTRY MAN SENTENCED FOR CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOR
Anthony Watts, 37, was found to have physically and emotionally abused a woman he had met online, specifically on Facebook.
He subjected her to prolonged control and violence, making her life a misery and even driving her to attempt her own life.
One incident involved Watts following her while she was walking her dog in June, viciously smacking her in the face and dragging her before she managed to escape.
Despite being arrested and bailed not to contact her, Watts broke that condition the very next day, threatening her by saying, 'You know the dance, darling, I am going to blow your world apart.' He was ultimately sentenced to 30 months in jail and received a five-year restraining order prohibiting any contact with the victim.
The court was told that Watts made her ask for permission to speak, not allowed her to contact friends, and threatened to kill her dog if she ever left him.
The victim described Watts as speaking to her in a way that made her feel like a nobody, being nasty, evil, and aggressive, and her feeling worthless due to his behavior.
