ANTHONY BROUGHALL FROM COVENTRY AND STOCKTON SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENSES INVOLVING CHILDREN
In a case that has shocked the local communities of Coventry and Stockton, Anthony Steve Broughall, a 45-year-old former learning mentor, was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court for serious sexual misconduct involving a young pupil.Broughall, who previously resided on Laurel Drive in Stockton near Southam, was found guilty of multiple charges related to child exploitation and abuse.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Broughall had admitted to making indecent images of children, a crime that carries significant legal penalties.
Additionally, he confessed to touching a young boy in a sexual manner.
The victim, who was only eight years old at the time, was a pupil under Broughall’s supervision and care at the school where he worked.
The court heard that Broughall’s misconduct spanned an 18-month period, during which he would touch pupils with the back of his hand.
These actions were linked to a complex issue concerning his own genitals, which was cited as a motive for his inappropriate behavior.
Broughall’s defense acknowledged these acts, which further underscored the severity of his breaches of trust.
At the sentencing hearing, Judge Marten Coates addressed the court and emphasized the gravity of Broughall’s actions.
He stated, “At the time you committed these offences, you were in a position of trust and abused that trust.
I will punish you for the serious breach of trust, at the same time I have to be mindful of the long-term interests of you and society.” The judge also highlighted the consequences Broughall faced, noting that he had lost his job, been removed from his family, and would now be subjected to public disgrace.
As part of his sentence, Broughall received a nine-month prison term, which was suspended for two years, meaning he will not serve time unless he commits further offenses within that period.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years and ordered to comply with a two-year supervision order.
