HORRIFIC BABY ABUSE BY ANNAMARIE PROCTER AND RICHARD SKELLY IN BURNLEY AND WATERFOOT

In a deeply disturbing case of child abuse, a newborn baby named Thierry Jordan Skelly suffered catastrophic injuries that nearly resulted in his death.

The incident unfolded over a span of several weeks, during which the infant endured relentless physical trauma inflicted by his parents, leading to their subsequent imprisonment.

Thierry, a fragile infant measuring just 20 inches in length, was subjected to a brutal series of assaults that left him with an astonishing 44 fractures across his ribs, arms, and legs.

Medical professionals at Burnley General Hospital described the injuries as severe, including multiple broken bones caused by squeezing, violent handling, and being flung around.

The trauma was so intense that the cracking sounds of his ribs breaking may have been audible at the time.

In addition to the fractures, Thierry sustained numerous cuts and bruises, indicative of the violent nature of the abuse.

The court proceedings revealed that the abuse occurred between February 10th and March 4th of the previous year, while the family was residing in Waterfoot.

The parents, both aged 20, are identified as Annamarie Procter, of Prestwich Street, Burnley, and Richard Skelly, of Surrey Road, Blackburn.

Despite their claims of innocence, both admitted to wilful neglect during the period in question.

The court was told that the injuries were not premeditated but resulted from ongoing neglect and mistreatment.

It was also noted that Procter, who has since given birth to another child, had not bonded with her first baby.

Health visitors who visited the family initially found no cause for concern, and everything appeared to be normal at the time.

However, concerned shop assistants later alerted health authorities after observing signs of distress or injury in the infant, ultimately leading to the baby's rescue from a life of potential danger and death.

During the court hearing at Burnley Crown Court, both parents expressed remorse for their actions.

The legal representatives for the defendants emphasized that the injuries were not premeditated and highlighted Procter's difficult upbringing as a possible contributing factor.

Nonetheless, the judge described the case as one of the most horrific instances of child abuse encountered in court, and both parents were sentenced to three years in prison for their neglect and the suffering inflicted upon their vulnerable child.
