Update Ann has passed away.In a case that has shocked the local community of Crieff and surrounding areas, Ann Taylor, a 53-year-old resident of Crieff, has been found guilty of systematically embezzling a significant sum of money from vulnerable pensioners over a period of several months.
The court proceedings revealed that Taylor, once regarded as a respected member of her community, had been secretly siphoning funds from elderly individuals, including a 93-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man, under the guise of trustworthiness and community service.
According to court records, Taylor admitted to stealing a total of £8,000 between July 1, 2013, and February 27, 2014.
The thefts took place across multiple locations, notably in Muthill, Crieff, and Dunblane, areas where she was known to frequent and where her victims resided.
The investigation into her activities was triggered after authorities received a report concerning missing funds from the Girl Guides organization, an organization she was associated with at the time.
It was subsequently uncovered that she had embezzled £1,337 from the Girl Guides.
The Crown prosecutor confirmed that Taylor pleaded guilty to the charges of theft, specifically admitting to the theft of £8,000 from a pensioner.
Additionally, she confessed to a separate incident involving the robbery of an 84-year-old man at his residence in Crieff on October 21 of the previous year.
These revelations have cast a shadow over her previously unblemished reputation within the community.
Her case was heard at Perth Sheriff Court, where the judge decided to defer sentencing until further background reports could be obtained.
The court proceedings were temporarily postponed to allow for a comprehensive review of her circumstances, with the final sentencing scheduled to be determined once all reports are available.
