PERTHSHIRE CREEP SENTENCED FOR ONLINE CHILD SEX OFFENSE
An internet creep who evaded paedophile hunters when they came knocking at his Perthshire home has been hit with a child contact ban.Bailey Murray thought he was chatting to a 13-year-old girl when he asked: “Do you want to trade nudes?” The 21-year-old then sent her an image of his penis.
He was unaware the child was an adult member of an online safety team who passed on a log of his grubby chats to her bosses.
Murray, who gave the “girl” a false name and location, was tracked down by hunters using his mobile phone and Paypal account.
But when they attempted to livestream a confrontation at his Crieff home, his mother refused to let them inside.
At Perth Sheriff Court, Murray pled guilty to intentionally sending an adult posing as a 13-year-old child a sexual image also asking her for naked images of herself.
Details emerged that the decoy account, named Olivia, was created in June this year.
Olivia claimed to be a 13-year-old girl from Brighton.
Murray contacted her on June 25, pretending to be Dylan from Stirling.
They moved communication to WhatsApp, where Murray sent her a selfie.
Olivia responded with her own selfie, which Murray commented on and followed by: “You want to have some fun xx.” and “Okay, do you want to trade some nudes?” When she expressed unfamiliarity with that, Murray responded: “First time for everything lol.
And if you don’t wanna that’s cool,” before sending a picture of his penis and asking if he could see her without clothes.
He further inquired: “Your breasts or your privates if your okay with that,” saying he had never seen a girl with her clothes off and asking her to show him.
The court heard how hunters traced Murray’s phone number to his Paypal account, eventually locating his home address.
When a child protection officer arrived at his house on June 27, his mother answered and denied his presence, referring to the account as “Dylan.” A passing acquaintance confirmed Murray’s identity and address, but his mother refused entry.
Police arrived shortly after.
His solicitor described him as “full of remorse” and a “lonely young man,” emphasizing her client’s support system and low risk of reoffending.
Murray has since moved to Perth in homeless accommodation.
The sheriff noted his careless online behavior and sentenced him to 12 months of supervision as an alternative to custody, including a ban on approaching or communicating with minors without permission.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years.
