ANGUS BOWMAN FROM CRAMLINGTON AND EASINGTON COLLIERY BRANDED DANGEROUS PAEDOPHILE

In October 2005, a man named Angus Bowman was officially labeled a dangerous paedophile and is now facing a minimum of three years behind bars. The 39-year-old was convicted of multiple sexual offences involving young children, with the court hearing disturbing details of his crimes.

Bowman’s criminal activities included two separate incidents where he targeted children aged eight and six. In one of these incidents, he showed the young victims a picture of naked boys in a changing room, an act that contributed to his conviction. The Durham Crown Court revealed that in another disturbing episode, Bowman committed a sexual act in front of two young girls. This incident occurred in Killingworth, North Tyneside, where he was confronted by an outraged pub owner who witnessed the act.

Following his arrest, Bowman was subjected to an interim sexual harm prevention order, which was intended to restrict his actions and prevent further offences. Despite this, he continued to pose a threat. While on bail, he lured two boys to a secluded area near Easington Colliery in County Durham, where he indecently touched them. His attempt to escape was thwarted when an uncle of one of the boys, who was searching for them, interrupted him. Bowman was caught trying to get into his car, which contained items such as a length of cord, rubber gloves, and a change of clothing.

Further investigations uncovered a disturbing collection of child pornography. Authorities found approximately 1,300 indecent images of children downloaded onto his home computer and a work laptop. Bowman was employed as a chemical engineer at Premier Waste Management, located in Shotton Colliery, County Durham. The court proceedings detailed these findings, which contributed significantly to his conviction.

Bowman, who resides on Moresby Road in Cramlington, Northumberland, denied multiple charges, including two counts of sexual activity in the presence of a child, two counts of child abduction, indecent assault, and 18 offences related to child pornography. Despite his denials, a jury at Newcastle Crown Court unanimously found him guilty after a trial held the previous month.

During the sentencing hearing, Roger Moore, acting as Bowman’s legal representative, stated that Bowman, who had previously been involved in swimming and triathlon clubs, continued to deny the allegations. However, the judge, Lowden, was unequivocal in his assessment. He sentenced Bowman to an indeterminate term of at least six years in prison, meaning Bowman will not be eligible for parole for a minimum of three years.

Judge Lowden addressed Bowman directly, stating, “I have no doubt you are a dangerous paedophile and I seldom use that word. The likelihood of further offending must be high.” As part of his punishment, Bowman will be registered as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities and restrictions to protect the community from potential future harm.
