TEENAGER SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL
An 18-year-old named Thomas Davis from Deneside in Seghill has been sentenced to life imprisonment after admitting to the rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl, Sarah Robson, whose body was discovered dumped in a field in Northumberland.
Davis pleaded guilty at Newcastle Crown Court to the charges of raping and killing Sarah.
The court was told that the incident occurred in February when Sarah's parents were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary and had gone out for a meal.
Davis had got Sarah drunk and then forced her to have sex behind her home, knocking her out through a combination of alcohol and blows to the head, before dragging her to a hilltop where he raped and strangled her.
Davis recognized the severity of his actions and contacted police by ringing 999, leading to his arrest at the scene.
The court also ordered him to be placed on the sex offenders' register for an indefinite period.
Sarah's parents, Lynn and John Robson, expressed their grief, mourning the loss of their daughter who they described as 'the life and soul of our household, always full of energy.' They shared that Sarah loved music, movies, and fashion, and that her sudden loss meant they would have to learn to live without her, calling their new reality 'a life sentence.' Detective Chief Inspector Ian Groom remarked on the tragedy, emphasizing the profound impact on Sarah's family and offering condolences.
The case highlighted the devastating consequences of violence against young girls, leaving the community in mourning and with a stark reminder of the importance of justice and safety.
