A Perth councillor has appeared in court charged with rape.Andy Chan was released on bail following a brief private hearing at Perth Sheriff Court.
The 43-year-old has been sitting as an independent councillor, having resigned from the Conservatives last year following the launch of a criminal investigation.
At the time he said he was stepping down from the local Tory group for “personal reasons”.

Chan faces a single allegation of rape and sexual assault.

He appeared on petition on Friday afternoon and made no plea, before being granted bail.
