NORWICH MAN, 42, JAILED FOR TRYING TO MEET GIRL FOR SEX
A convicted sex offender was arrested after he arranged to meet a girl in Norwich for sex, a court has heard.
Andrew Ryan had been communicating online with what he thought was an 11-year-old girl but was in fact an undercover police officer.
Norwich Crown Court heard the 42-year-old — who had previously used the surname Morton — first contacted the girl in summer 2023.
Chris Youell, prosecuting, said Ryan, who has prior convictions for child sex offences, engaged in chats involving sexual communication, including sending images of his genitals.
The most serious offence was attempting to meet the victim for sex.
Ryan arranged to meet the victim at Norwich Railway Station on September 22, 2023, with a suggestion they would go to a hotel.
After his arrest, police found indecent images — A, B, and C — on his phone.
Ryan, who was in breach of a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), admitted attempted sexual communication with a child under 16 and attempting to cause a child to view sexual images.
He also admitted trying to meet a child under 16 for sexual activity, as well as making indecent images of children.
The court sentenced Ryan to an extended seven-year sentence, comprising four years in prison and three years on license, deeming him a "dangerous" offender.
Ryan was also placed on the sex offenders' register for life and subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
