ANDREW PROSSER'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN NEWPORT: SIX-YEAR SENTENCE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Newport, Andrew Phillip Prosser, aged 26, was sentenced to six years in prison after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against a young girl during the 1990s.

The court heard that Prosser, a resident of Grafton Road in Newport, had engaged in multiple acts of sexual violence, including two counts of rape, three counts of indecent assault, and two counts of acts of indecency directed towards the young girl. The crimes were described as a disturbing pattern of abuse where Prosser used the girl as a "sex plaything to indulge his fantasies," a phrase that underscored the severity and depravity of his actions.

The sentencing took place at Newport Crown Court, where Judge David Morris delivered a stern verdict. He emphasized that Prosser was fully aware that his conduct was wrong and that his actions were driven by a desire to satisfy his own sexual urges. The judge pointed out that the offenses were committed when Prosser was still a developing teenager, which added a layer of gravity to the case. Despite the passage of time, the judge noted that no further sex offenses had been committed by Prosser since the incidents in the 1990s.

He sentenced him to six years for the two counts of rape, along with an additional five years for the other sexual offenses. The court also imposed two concurrent sentences of 30 months and an 18-month sentence for the indecent assaults, as well as two concurrent 30-month sentences for acts of indecency. Furthermore, Judge Morris warned Prosser that he was unlikely to be released until he had served at least two-thirds of his sentence.
