MECHANIC JAILED FOR SIX YEARS AFTER RAPE
A sex attacker who raped a young Bournemouth mother twice and assaulted her, causing more than 30 injuries, showed no emotion yesterday (August 27) as he was jailed for six years.Bournemouth Crown Court heard how Murray, 24, had attacked his victim at her home on March 19 this year.
At one point he smashed a plate over her head, causing her to temporarily black out.
When the woman begged him to stop he ignored her pleas and told her: "You'll enjoy this as much as I will." Murray claimed they had started cuddling and kissing and "one thing had led to another".
A medical examination revealed that his victim had suffered more than 30 bruises and marks to her body.
Jurors heard that when police arrived to arrest him, Murray had told them: "You took your time, didn't you?" Defending, David Gibson-Lee described Murray as "a bright young man" who had gained 11 GCSEs and was a qualified lifeguard.
"These are very serious offences.
He got himself into the most appalling situation, involving drink and drugs.
He now realises that what he did was wrong.
He has had some time to reflect on it." Sentencing Murray, Judge James Meston QC said: "These offences are so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified.
When your victim rejected your advances you became aggressive and overcame her resistance with force and violence.
She was hurt and frightened.
She was plainly distressed when she had to give evidence before this court - an ordeal you could have spared her.
Fortunately she has suffered no lasting physical injuries." He told Murray: "You have shown only limited remorse with a worrying tendency to violence which may make you potentially dangerous." Murray, who will not be considered for release by a parole board until he has served two thirds of his sentence, will have to register with the police as a sex offender.
