Andrew Mackay, aged 64, residing on Bute Drive in High Spen, Gateshead, lured a child into his home.

There, he served alcohol to the youngster and waited until they were unconscious before assaulting them.

The victim reported the incident in September 2022, prompting an immediate investigation by the Safeguarding Department of Northumbria Police.

The day after the report, Mackay was detained by officers and questioned.

He denied committing any crimes.

Subsequently, he faced charges of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

A week-long trial at Newcastle Crown Court concluded in November 2024, with the jury convicting Mackay on all charges.

Yesterday, he appeared before the same court and was sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Additionally, Mackay was issued a sexual harm prevention order, a restraining order, and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
