PERTH MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD ENDANGERMENT AND DRUG EXPOSURE
According to a court hearing, a young child was left in a drug-infested, unclean flat in Perth.Police found the child asleep on a heavily stained mattress while the accused, 36-year-old Andrew Love, was observed in another room displaying signs of being in a drug-induced sleep cycle.
Love admitted to guilty charges involving placing the child at risk of harm and unnecessary suffering in a city center property last year.
The court was informed that Love was responsible for caring for the girl but had exposed her to illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia while he was intoxicated and unable to provide proper care.
He also acknowledged neglecting the hygiene and cleanliness of the flat.
Sheriff Clair McLachlan remarked that the case was “quite shameful” and noted Love’s apologetic attitude and awareness of his substance abuse issues.
The judge sentenced Love to an 18-month supervised period during which he must follow drug and alcohol treatment regimes.
As part of the punishment, Love is also required to remain at home from 7pm to 7am for six months under a restriction of liberty order.
Police raided the flat around 3am, discovering evidence of drug use, including heavy staining, blackened areas on the carpet, clutter, and a child’s room with stained walls and poor hygiene.
The living room exhibited drug residues, torn foil, and a pungent smell, illustrating neglect.
The court was also told that Love committed a theft at a mobile phone shop in June 2024, stealing 47 mobile phones and other items, which were later recovered.
His lawyer highlighted his chaotic lifestyle but confirmed that he has not been involved in any trouble since.
The case underscores the dangers of neglect and drug exposure to vulnerable children, leading the court to opt for supervision and rehabilitation instead of custody.
