ANDREW JANES FROM LEWISHAM SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENSES IN CROYDON

In a disturbing case that has shocked the Lewisham community and beyond, Andrew Janes, a 29-year-old resident of Boundfield Road in Lewisham, has been sentenced to prison for heinous acts involving a young girl. The incident, which took place in July 2020, involved Janes engaging in sexually abusive behavior while the girl was asleep, and he was subsequently found to possess numerous indecent images of children on his mobile device.

Janes' criminal conduct was uncovered after he initiated contact with a decoy profile on RandoChat, an anonymous chat application used by law enforcement to catch online predators. The profile, which was created by the child protection group SGTI and depicted a young girl, was contacted by Janes in April 2019. The fake profile provided a name and claimed to be 14 years old, leading Janes to engage in a series of increasingly explicit messages.

According to court proceedings, Janes maintained daily communication with the decoy, with the messages quickly turning sexual in nature.
